	The South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center and gift shop is the Rio Grande Valley's premier destination for birdwatching. Our unique location on South Padre Island is the perfect place to observe the birds, butterflies and natural wildlife in coastal South Texas. Visit us on South Padre Island, walk the bayfront boardwalks, take a birding tour and explore the nature center.

Artist of the Month

The South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center features new artists every month. Please enjoy the work of our March artist, Shirley Hawthorne and visit the SPI BNC to enjoy these wonderful pieces on our walls.

About the Artist

Shirley Hawthorne grew up in rural South Jersey where she developed an appreciation for the beauty in simple things and a love of nature. She has won a variety of awards and honors in numerous juried shows, and has shown her work in the Noyes and Brownsville Art Museums, and a one person show in the Ocean City (NJ) Art Center. She enjoys participating in the Laguna Madre Art League and showing her South Texas paintings in the local area.

Her artwork will be displayed in our facility until March 31, 2013.
