The Roseate Spoonbill is a brightly colored wading bird in the ibis and spoonbill family.
The Roseate Spoonbill is often seen near the Laguna Madre Bay or in surrounding wetlands and resacas. This bird is about 31 inches tall with long legs, long neck and a "spoon" shaped bill. The plumage of the Roseate Spoonbill varies from white, and light pink to a dramatic darker pink color.
You can see them feeding in shallow fresh or salt water by swinging its bill from side to side as it walks through the water. In our are their primary diet is crustaceans and shrimps. But, they will also eat insects, frogs and very small fish. A diet rich in shrimp contributes to the striking pink color of the Roseate Spoonbill.
