Dr. Luis Materon has been a professor of microbiology and molecular virology at the University of Texas Pan American for 12 years. His research deals with the identification of pathogenic bacteria in fruit and vegetables and on the ecological aspects of biological nitrogen fixation.

Dr. Luis Materon was educated in Colombia, Australia and the USA. Before joining the UTPA, he worked on agricultural research for international organizations for approximately 13 years. He is the author of several books and more than 40 scientific publications. He enjoys photography and philately (stamp collection).
