Join our naturalists for a guided tour as we celebrate World Shorebirds Day with a shorebird count for conservation along our boardwalk. Stay after the tour to learn about the shorebird conservation work being done in the RGV by Coastal Bird Conservation Biologist, Stephanie Bilodeau.

About the Event

Shorebirds (sandpipers, plovers, and allies), are some of the most incredible birds in the world! They are champion migrants, with some species migrating nearly pole to pole twice a year! Early September brings waves of migratory shorebirds through our wetlands and mudflats as they seek rest and food to energize their journey. Enjoy and learn all about these incredible birds as we celebrate their lives and natural histories! 

Shorebird Tour & Count:  limited to 15 participants. Sanitized binoculars are loaned during the tour. Tour will end around 10:45am to allow time to attend the "Shorebird Conservation in the RGV" presentation. Purchase tickets below, registration ticket covers tour fee, general admission will be paid separately upon arrival to the birding and nature center.

Adults: $10

Students 13-18 yrs & Seniors 55+ : $8

"Shorebird Conservation in the RGV" presentation by, Stephanie Bilodeau, Coastal Bird Conservation Biologist with the Coastal Bend & Bays Estuary Program:

Presentation starts at 11am. Everyone is welcome to this interesting presentation with regular paid admission to the birding center upon arrival and with no registration needed. Stephanie will share her work experience as the leading shorebird conservation biologist in the RGV. You will learn about the important work being done along our shores to conserve shorebird species and their habitats and some of the local challenges that shorebirds face. 

Educational shorebird crafts and games will also be available for kids!

Birding Tours at this time are limited to students above 13 years of age as well as adults and seniors.

    Ticket is valid for guided birding tour and does not include general admission. Admission will be paid upon arrival to the SPI Birding & Nature Center.
