About the Event
Native habitat on South Padre Island is extremely valuable to trans-gulf migratory birds completing their non-stop 600-mile flight across the Gulf of Mexico coming from their wintering grounds in the tropics during spring migration.
SPI is first sight of land for many, and they rely on healthy habitat where they can find food, water, and shelter to gain the energy needed for the next leg of their migration.
This tour will visit public and private native habitats on SPI during peak spring migration in hopes of seeing as many migratory birds as possible while inspiring the preservation and creation of more habitat on the island and the surrounding area.
Our Naturalists will be your guides and will interpret the habitats we visit, relate the plant species being used by migratory birds, and also help to spot and identify the birds we encounter.
Transportation is being provided by SPI Surft Shuttle. We will be riding comfortably from place to place in their 12-passenger sprinter van.
This event is part of our Earth Day Spring Migration Celebration!
