About the Event
Shorebirds (sandpipers, plovers, and allies), are some of the most incredible birds in the world! They are champion migrants, with some species migrating nearly pole to pole twice a year! Early September brings waves of migratory shorebirds through our wetlands and mudflats as they seek rest and food to energize their journey. Enjoy and learn all about these incredible birds as we celebrate their lives and natural histories!
Shorebird Tour & Count: Join our Naturalist Educators and enjoy a shorebird focused tour through our wetlands. The coastline is the best place to see the greatest diversity of shorebirds. Learn to identify the species encountered and help conduct a shorebird count. Data collected will be submitted to bird conservation organizations to be used to access the health of shorebird populations nation-wide. Limited to 15 participants. Sanitized binoculars are loaned during the tour. The tour will end around 11:00 a.m. and participants are more than welcome to attend the "Shorebird Research and Conservation Along the Texas Coast" presentation at 1:30 p.m. Purchase tickets below, registration ticket covers tour fee, general admission will be paid separately upon arrival at the birding and nature center.
