Thousands of migrating birds pass through our Island
each year; additional habitat is needed for them to
rejuvenate as they make their journey.

Creation of Monarch Butterfly Habitat Gardens
SPI is a “super highway” for the vanishing
Monarch Butterfly. Habitat is needed,
specifically “zygotes milkweed” to preserve this species.

Mangrove and Cattail Management
Mangroves are vital habitat for shore birds and must be managed yearly to allow for additional species of birds. Invasive plant species management is an ongoing program to protect healthy native plant life.

A ‘special’ area with hands on activities for small children to provide education about the Monarch Butterflies through play.
